| With the holidays approaching, we want to remind everyone of the true meaning and responsibility behind owning a pet. A pet is not a seasonal gift or a temporary source of joy. It is a living being that depends on us — its humans — for love, safety, and care every single day of its life. Owning a dog or a cat is hard work. It can be overwhelming, demanding, and far more than many people expect. Yet every year, countless animals are given as gifts only to be abandoned once the reality of day-to-day care sets in. Many of the pets in our shelter today are here because someone underestimated what it takes to raise an animal. Too many dogs and cats are left to fend for themselves on the streets — confused, terrified, and unequipped to survive. Some are hit by cars. Some are attacked by other animals. Some simply never make it to safety. These tragedies are preventable. When you walk through any shelter, you’ll see the faces of animals who were once loved… until they weren’t. Puppies surrendered because they grew too fast. Cats abandoned because they scratched a couch. Senior dogs discarded after a lifetime of loyalty. Every kennel holds a story of a life disrupted by human decisions. This is why we continue to raise awareness: IF YOU WANT TO WELCOME AN ANIMAL INTO YOUR FAMILY, PLEASE ADOPT — DON’T SHOP. Behind the scenes of many pet stores and irresponsible breeders are heartbreaking realities: puppies born with preventable medical issues, mothers kept in inhumane conditions, and animals treated as products rather than lives. And too often, those same puppies and kittens end up in shelters a few months later because no one thought seriously about the commitment involved. Adopting saves lives. It breaks the cycle of neglect, overbreeding, and abandonment — and gives animals a second chance at the love and stability they deserve. This holiday season let’s shift the mindset: A PET IS NOT A GIFT. A PET IS A LIFELONG PROMISE. If you’re ready to make that promise, the BETA shelters are full of animals waiting for someone who truly means it. HELP US MAKE THEIR HOLIDAY SEASON FEEL SPECIAL. Even though many of our shelter animals don’t have their forever families yet, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t feel the warmth of the holiday season. We work hard to make their holiday season special — with cozy bedding, treats, enrichment toys, warm meals, and the extra care they deserve during this time of year. But to make this happen, we need your help. Your donations ensure that the animals under our care stay safe, warm, and loved throughout the holidays. Every contribution — big or small — makes a direct impact on their comfort, their wellbeing, and their chance at a brighter future.Donate today and help us give them the Christmas they deserve. -THE BETA TEAM “IT’S THEIR PLANET TOO” |
![]() RESCUE OF THE MONTH Barely 3 years old, Chesney survived something no living being should ever face. Witnesses saw a car hit him… then reverse and run over him again — deliberately. The impact shattered his leg beyond saving, leaving him with multiple fractures, torn ligaments, and painful road burns. He lay on the cold ground, trembling and alone. But Chesney refused to give up. Thanks to a miracle and quick action, our team stabilized him, ran every necessary test, and took him straight into critical surgery once he was stable enough. Chesney fought to survive. Now it’s our turn to fight for him. ![]() TRANSFORMATION OF THE MONTH When Combo was rescued from the South of Lebanon, he was skin and bones, covered in painful sores, and infested with ticks and fleas. Every movement hurt — yet his eyes still held a quiet spark of hope. Months of medical care and gentle attention changed everything. His fur grew back, his wounds healed, and slowly, his spirit returned. Today, Combo is fully recovered — joyful, energetic, and full of love. He adores running, playing, and soaking up affection. Despite his past, he remains incredibly sweet and gentle. All he needs now is a forever home that will give him the love he so eagerly shares with everyone he meets. ![]() PET OF THE MONTH Shani was found wandering the streets of Barja — starved, sick, and carrying the scars of a life no dog should ever face. She had been exploited for breeding and then abandoned to survive alone. But her story changed. With proper care, Shani made an incredible recovery. Her coat has grown back, her eyes are bright again, and her gentle spirit has returned. Today, she’s healthy, calm, affectionate, and gets along beautifully with other dogs. Shani is one of the sweetest souls we’ve met — trusting, cuddly, and full of quiet joy. All she needs now is a forever family to give her the love she has always deserved. Shani is living proof that even a painful past can lead to a beautiful new beginning. |
