| URGENT PLEA FOR HELP! |
| We Cannot Turn a Blind Eye, and Neither Should You! |
Dear Community,
We were recently overwhelmed by heartbreaking messages from a shelter in the Saida region. The Saida municipality that had created and managed a small shelter for dogs has suddenly stopped all support, leaving the animals behind without food, medical care, or any plan for their survival. Of the many dogs, only 42 survived, while the others tragically lost their lives in the most inhumane way, slowly fading away from hunger, disease, and neglect. All avoidable unnecessary deaths!
We could not stand by and do nothing. We could not ignore this.
Two volunteers on the ground stepped in immediately, driven by the belief that even in the face of overwhelming odds, they could make a difference, and they did! The situation is dire. Nearly 80% of the dogs are suffering from tick-borne diseases, mange, coronavirus, ehrlichia, and other life-threatening conditions.
The shelter itself is located next to a landfill, surrounded by toxic waste and the stench of garbage. The dogs are living in deplorable conditions, and every day that passes without help, their situation becomes more desperate.
We are overwhelmed.
We are understaffed.
We are under-supplied.
And we are already deep in debt.
But we had no choice. We acted. Because when you witness such suffering, you cannot simply look away. We took in seven of the most critical cases, dogs whose lives hung by a thread, dogs that had no hope unless we intervened.
Every single one of these dogs is in urgent need of specialized medical care. We wish we could take them all, but with our resources stretched beyond capacity, it is simply impossible.
The heartbreaking truth is that adoptions remain at a standstill, and we still have not secured enough food for the coming month. But despite this, we continue to rescue the most vulnerable, doing everything we can to care for those who need us most.
Even though we are barely able to sustain ourselves, we still managed to donate what little food, medical supplies, flea and tick treatments, and deworming medication we could spare to the animals left behind at the abandoned Saida shelter. It feels like we haven’t done enough, but right now, it is all we have to give.
The truth is, we cannot keep going without your help.
We are at the breaking point, but we refuse to stop fighting for these dogs. We will find a way to make space. We will summon the strength to keep going. But we cannot do it without your support.
Please, help us help them.
Your donation today will make all the difference. It will allow us to secure food for our shelter, provide the medical care these dogs desperately need, and continue rescuing the most critical cases. It will also help us support the dogs still trapped in the abandoned Saida shelter, where conditions are deteriorating by the day.
We cannot turn a blind eye. We refuse to let these dogs suffer in silence.
We are asking you to stand with us — to show that even when systems fail, compassion does not.
Together, we can be the safety net these animals desperately need. Please, do not let them be forgotten.
With gratitude and hope,
The BETA Team
