As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on another 365-day journey around the sun, and what a year it has been !
Despite all the odds, uncertainties, and challenges we’ve encountered, and in the face of unforeseen obstacles, including the outbreak of war, we can truthfully say, with a sigh of relief, that WE MADE IT THROUGH.
Let’s start off by wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year from the BETA team, it’s the least we could do after all that you have done for us.
We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again, and we’ll keep saying it: you turned the impossible into reality.
An outcome that seemed improbable and unrealistic became possible, all thanks to each and every one of you !
As 2024 comes to a close, we remember the animals we had to say goodbye to—10 of our senior dogs and 12 senior cats, 60% of whom had arrived as puppies and kittens.
Throughout the year, our rescue is still being directly impacted by the import ban enforced by the USA and Canada. Combined with the ongoing state of panic in our country, the cancellation of flights, our shelter has had to close its doors to all non-life-threatening cases.
Thanks to your incredible and continued support, along with your generous donations, we were able to rescue over 486 dogs and 92 cats this past year.
Despite the overwhelming influx of animals during the outbreak of the war, we were able to rise to the challenge, accommodate the needs, and accomplish what once seemed impossible.
Their recovery has been long and hard, but we are thankful most of them pulled through and are now deemed “healthy”, giving them, the three donkeys and the goose who we also rescued this year a second chance at life.
Thanks to your donations, more than 212 lifesaving surgeries were performed, and more than 850 medical interventions were made.
Thanks to your generous donations and unwavering support, despite the challenges we faced—with local adoptions barely happening and many international adoptions postponed due to flight cancellations—we were still able to find forever homes for 132 dogs and 37 cats. These animals were finally able to leave their past behind, celebrating their first Christmas in a loving home, enjoying the warmth of a bed and the unconditional love of a family.
Thanks to your donations, our trap, neuter, and release (TNR) program was able to continue this year, spaying and neutering over 253 dogs and 158 cats.
Thanks to your generous donation, over 1200 dogs, 230 cats, 4 horses, 5 donkeys, 2 monkeys, 2 rabbits, 13 tortoises, 1 goose, and a dozen chickens thrived under our care.
They received everything they needed, including individual medical treatments, yearly vaccinations, monthly de-fleaing and deworming, food, treats, beds, and all the unconditional love they deserve.
If we were to list everything we’ve achieved thanks to you, the list would be endless.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible partners who have been with us through every challenge and triumph, providing unwavering support and encouragement along the way.
A special thank you to SPCAI for their dedication to animal welfare, to Cuddly for their compassionate efforts in fundraising, and last but certainly not least, to the Suzy Utzinger Foundation for their generous commitment to making a meaningful difference.
Your collective contributions have been instrumental in our journey, and we are deeply thankful for your partnership.
While we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support and thankful for the many lives we’ve been able to save and rehome, as well as the countless others we continue to care for, our mission is far from over.
Each year brings new hardships, more difficulties, and even more obstacles to overcome.
Our intake numbers continue to rise, while our adoptions sadly keep falling. It’s a reality we face head-on, knowing that we have you by our side.
Our wish for 2025 is to finally have all our rescues under one roof—or at least a safe, permanent place to call home.
We hope the ongoing economic crisis in Lebanon and the outbreak of war, which has led to the abandonment of hundreds, if not thousands, of animals, will soon come to an end.
We hope that the government will enforce the laws designed to protect the voiceless and hold abusers accountable.
We hope that the conflict affecting our region will ease, and that no more war will break out.
Above all, we desperately hope that the ceasefire holds so we are able to get the animals to their forever homes abroad, we also hope that the US/Canada ban on the import of rescued dogs will be lifted, giving our animals the chance to start anew, to have a better future.
With all of this in mind, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering support, and we wish you a New Year filled with hope, love, and peace.
Happy New Year !
