Dear supporters,
No matter how much we want to help every dog in every circumstance, the sad reality is that we can’t but we can save many lives by neutering. Almost on a monthly basis, Beta receives phone calls about unwanted kittens and puppies being thrown in the garbage and left to die of which only some are found alive and cared for.
To limit the overpopulation of strays, to limit the suffering of animals, to limit extensive breeding, towards a sustainable solution: Beta’s response to all these challenges is Spay Day International on February 23rd organized by the Humane Society International and many other worldwide organizations. For more information on International Spay Day, please visit www.hsi.org/spayday .
The objective of SpayDay International is to limit the population of stray dogs and cats and to raise awareness about the benefits of neutering and encourage people to save lives by neutering their pets.
This year, in collaboration with Mayor Louis Abi Habib - Municipality of Roumieh and Animal House Hospital, Beta aims at neutering the stray dog population of Roumieh between February 10th and 28th, 2010, by trapping, neutering and releasing dogs back to respective areas of presence, a technique referred to as TNR. The Roumieh strays are considered ‘community dogs’ –street dogs that are fed and given shelter (not homes) by dog lovers in the local community.
We are very enthusiastic that for the first time, a Mayor is responsive to a more humane approach in controlling the overpopulation of street dogs than the usual poisoning or shooting of strays which has been proved ineffective as a method of population control. We hope Mayor Abi Habib paves the way for other municipalities to follow in adopting this long term solution.
On "Spay Day International" Tuesday, February 23, BETA will be working under the Patronage of the Lebanese Order of Veterinarians to neuter people’s pets only at a discounted price. Â
To reserve a surgical intervention, please contact us on our Spay Day Hotline 70-248765.
The list of BETA’s very dedicated volunteers keeps on growing but for us to be able to continue in our efforts we seek your donations, which will allow us to achieve the goals we’ve set for this year and to proceed with our mission.
Please remember that your donations will help reduce daily suffering of animals on the streets in Lebanon as it has been proven that neutered dogs and cats are less likely to be physically abused in the future and to be better able to protect themselves in a very tough living environment.
We would like to inform you that BETA’s International Spay Day Campaign is generously designed by Mr. Barry Brand and his team from Quantum & Vertical.
As always, thank you for your continuing support.
Sincerely,
The BETA Team
